The Birth of Julien – Adelaide Birth Photographer

When I get an email enquiry like this, I get truly excited because I know this couple are empowered and value what I do. No mention of money or packages. Rather a simple communication about why they want their birth photographed, when, how and where they will be supported. Afterall, these elements are what’s most important about their experience.

Hi Victoria, I hope this finds you well. I really hope that we aren’t getting in too late, but I know this may be the case with you being in such demand! My husband and I are expecting our first this July. After having lost many pregnancies, we have been hesitant to book too many things until we got further along than ever before. We have now reached the 24 week mark and all looks good! If things continue on this path then we will be birthing at home with two WCH MGP midwives and a student midwife. Again, I understand if you are already all booked for this time, but you come highly recommended by good friends of ours, so I couldn’t help but at least try! Thanks, Hanna

Not only did I go on to photograph the birth of their precious rainbow baby, Julien – I was also asked to do a pregnancy and newborn session with them. It was a very magic experience and the collection of images I am able to give this family honour their experience beautifully.

The Pregnancy and Newborn Journey – Adelaide Birth Photographer

When birth photography isn’t for everyone, there is still a beautiful story to capture. When first time parents Ben and Marnie contacted me, we talked about creating a session to remember…. I love doing this with the pregnancy sessions in particular. With so much anticipation and love, there is just so much to smile about! Selecting the best maternity images, adding them to the beautiful photographs taken during an at-home newborn session, and including some beautiful words from mum and dad is what I love. The album created is really something special – to keep, to reflect on and to pass along when the time comes!

The Arrival of Ashton – Hospital Bonding Sessions

I offer Bonding Sessions as an alternative to Birth Photography for families. Shortly after Ashton’s arrival, I received a wonderful message announcing his entrance into the world. I quickly re-arranged my following day so I could head in to do a special shoot for him and his family. With two big brothers to work with, we had a lot of fun documenting this unique and special time in Ashton’s life. Capturing beautifully natural interactions and working in a few posed shots, this family’s collection created a beautiful Moleskine Journal Book to record all of the important details!

It is so special to be able to document our thoughts, feelings, hopes and expressions of love in a book filled with our own family’s photographs. I really love the way your photographs weave our family’s story throughout the journal; each photo prompting a memory worth documenting. Charlie Rose, a light of hope – Adelaide Maternity and Newborn Photographer

This couple’s story not only broke my heart but also nourished it, with the joyful arrival of precious Charlie Rose. Bianca’s story was a reminder that pregnancy is such a gift but it’s challenges can also hold unimaginable pain.

“She was worth everyday of worry, concern, struggle and pain and she is our closest connection to our baby that we lost.” ~ Bianca, mother of Charlie

It was such an honour to provide this gift of photography.

Pregnancy to Newborn – Adelaide Birth Photographer

A beautiful couple came to my studio a few weeks ago for a maternity shoot. It was a fun afternoon as the pair filled me in on their journey to this point and their ideas for the future as parents to their new baby. Pregnancy isn’t always an easy experience, but it’s always a miracle worth celebrating and remembering which is why I love doing these types of shoots.

… And then she arrived… this gorgeous little princess… oh how we cooed and clucked the morning away! xxx

First Time Birth Journey – Adelaide Birth Photographer

This birth is a particularly powerful one for me. Photographing the New Zealand born couple, Pene and Jeremy becoming parents was a moving and memorable experience. It is with special thanks to them both for allowing me to share some of their images with you here.

I was called to Pene and Jeremy’s home just before midnight on the 14th August 2013. The mood was calm with sense of apprehension about what was to come and a hint of suppressed excitement. We took a brief opportunity to capture a posed moment in between contractions. It was the love I saw in this photograph that I witnessed wildly blooming as Jeremy saw the amazing power and strength Pene had within her. It is an image that set the scene of support and strength between them as a new family.

Pene’s strength continued as she found relief in water with the support of Jeremy and the midwifery staff.

It is the response from her friend Vicki that resonated in my heart and made the tears in my eyes, roll down my cheeks. He required some assistance to clear his lungs and a little oxygen. The staff who attended to his care were so compassionate.
